Original Nimesulide is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with a unique, multifactorial mode of action that provides a rapid and effective relief from painful inflammatory symptoms.

Original Nimesulide is indicated for the treatment of acute pain, for the sympthomatic treatment of painful osteoarthritis and primary dysmenorrhoea.

The therapeutic effects of Original Nimesulide are the results of its complete mode of action which targets a number of key mediators of the inflammatory process: COX-2 mediated prostaglandins, free radicals and proteolytic enzymes, histamine. Recent studies put in evidence the pharmacological activity of Original Nimesulide on Substance P, a key mediator of pain in inflamed tissues. This activity may explain its effective analgesic activity.

Original Nimesulide has been developed and licensed-out by Helsinn, which acquired the exclusive world-wide rights from 3M-Riker in 1980. Helsinn also manufactures Original Nimesulide active ingredient and finished product in full compliance with the current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) guidelines in its plants in Switzerland and Ireland.
