Seven years after the foundation of Helsinn, in 1983, Helsinn Chemicals S.A., now Helsinn Advanced Synthesis S.A., was inaugurated as the Group’s first production plant. Since then Helsinn has opened other chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in Switzerland and Ireland.
The plants are approved by the Swiss and Irish authorities and by the US FDA, EMA, PIC and Japanese PMDA as well as by several other national boards.
From early 2000 all Swiss plant has been ISO 14001 certified, confirming Helsinn’s commitment towards protection of the environment according to best International standards. The continuous work on HSE has also led to the OHSAS 18001 certification of the Swiss site in 2005, as the first chemical plant ever in Switzerland.
Helsinn continues to increase the production capacity of the Group's plants by adding new technologies and increasing production flexibility. In 2011, Helsinn further expanded the services at the Helsinn Advanced Synthesis SA site in Biasca, Switzerland, with a new investment for a plant dedicated to the development, analysis and manufacturing of cytotoxic molecules which will be operational in 2012.
